
Some local health insurers haven’t been made to know the health insurance legislation being crafted in Congress, but changes in the last two weeks have made the senate bill less distasteful to them. The bill no longer would bear the public option or a government run health insurer that would compete with private insurers. With Democrats wanting the support of all 60 senators in their causes to pass a bill, senators oppose the government entering the private insurance market successfully jettisoned the public opinion from the legislation. Executives of three area health insurers passed their thoughts about the health care overhaul with The Repository earlier. They passed a remark as the bill rapidly evolved in the weeks before the senate approved it on Christmas Eve. Now congressional negotiators will seek to find out major differences between the senate and House versions of the bill. Insurers say that while the United States has a good health care system, they don’t dispute that Americans often can’t afford the surging costs. Insurers blame increasing health care costs on several factors. Consumers’ agreement to pay whatever it takes to treat a condition, their lack of awareness of lots, longer life spans and the increasing availability of new medical technology such as knee replacements that cost $38,000.
