Louisiana and Wisconsin are set to raise the auto insurance requirements for all automobile owners from the New Year. Both states feel that the minimum liability coverage that is in force now is not sufficient to cover the risks. The direct result of this decision would be a raise in the auto insurance rates. The Louisiana drivers are already paying very high auto insurance rates. This is one of the few states where the auto insurance rates are very high already. Surely the drivers of this state are going to be hit hard by this decision. The minimum coverage that is proposed now is fifteen thousand dollars for property damage. A driver would have to buy an insurance cover for fifty thousand dollars if he is to be adequately covered against causing serious injuries to a single person or for causing the death of a single person. The insurance cover would double to $100,000 if the driver is to get a cover for causing the death of more than one person. From January 2010 the owners and drivers must carry proof of auto insurance with them all the time. If a police officer asks for it the driver should produce the proof or pay a fine.
